Below are frequently asked questions that the NHMRC has received through its Web site and call center.

What does the NHMRC do?

The National Healthy Marriage Resource Center (NHMRC) is a clearinghouse for high quality, balanced, and timely information and resources on healthy marriage. The NHMRC’s mission is to be a first stop for information, resources, and training on healthy marriage for experts, researchers, policymakers, media, marriage educators, couples and individuals, program providers, and others. Learn more about us.

The NHMRC does not offer direct assistance to individuals requesting help with a personal situation. For individual situations, individuals should seek assistance from a local, county or state agency within their area. Below are a few agencies who can better assist individuals and couples in finding a direct service provider.

American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
AAMFT sponsors the Therapist Locator, a voluntary registry of licensed marriage and family therapists throughout the country. Only those professionals who have met the requirements for AAMFT Clinical Membership will be listed on this locator service. This Web site also has useful information regarding different types of problems, including domestic violence and mental health issues.

The National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists
Their mission is to help marriages by linking couples with the most highly qualified therapists in the country. The Registry only accepts therapists with many years of training and experience in marriage and couples therapy. These therapists value marriage and life-long commitment, and are dedicated to helping marriages succeed if at all possible.

Smart Marriages
Smart Marriages is a source for information about classes and workshops for different kinds of marital and relationship issues and distress.
